Foods and Nutrition

A study of basic principles of food preparation which will include instruction in nutrition, purchasing, food handling, safety, sanitation, serving, and storage of food.  Food-related careers will be explored.  Laboratory includes preparation and evaluation of individual food products. Year 2 course will provide an advanced study of the principles of food preparation and exploration of cuisines of the world as it relates to the hospitality and the food service industry.  This capstone course provides a solid foundation for a wide range of career paths, including a small food service business, hospitality, food science, dietetics and nutrition.
