Strong communication skills are crucial to academic and professional success.  Students are encouraged to select their English courses carefully in order to develop important reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.  All 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students must take a full year of English.

Subject and sequence requirements: All 9th through 12th grade students must complete the English requirements listed below.  Any semester not passed at the freshman or sophomore level must be repeated once, and students are encouraged to do so during summer school.  Students who have not passed a complete year will be one year behind in sequence. Although the only courses for which there are prerequisites are Advanced Sophomore English, American Literature Honors, and AP English Literature, all students are reminded that a grade of "C" or better is required by UCs and CSUs in order to receive credit for any course.
