The California Physical Best Fitness Test (CFT) will be administered to all freshman students during the spring semester. Students will be trained in a variety of skills in preparation for the CFT. This mandatory physical assessment includes muscular endurance (sit ups), muscular strength (push-up, pull-ups or flex-arm hangs), flexibility (modified sit-up and reach), and aerobic capacity (measured mile run). Impact of health related fitness to body mass will be discussed and determined. Commencing 2008-2009 State law provides that all 9th grade students must pass 5 of the 6 California Fitness Test criteria within the Healthy Fitness Zone. BMI will be taken on each student for fitness testing. Students must continue to take Physical Education classes until they have passed the test, which could result in a 4-year Physical Education program.
